Most people are familiar with the phrase "Operation Warp Speed" — aimed to overcome the challenges of bringing the COVID-19 vaccination to the American people. This not only presented a challenge for researchers to develop the vaccine itself, but also to mass produce it and distribute it across the country.
In the push for rapid distribution, one of our system integrator partners asked us to provide several small-scale conveyor systems where empty pallets feed into a robotic cell to be palletized with small, empty, specialized vials inside cases. These palletized vials are then distributed to manufacturers who in turn, fill the vials with the vaccine.
Empty pallets are loaded on an Alba Chain Driven Live Roller (CDLR) conveyor. The Alba conveyor then transports the empty pallets inside a partitioned area to a palletizing robot. The robot then proceeds to palletize individual cases of these specialized vials until the pallet is full.
